Close up! . Young photo journalists at the 59. Berlinale

Project
17 February to 9 March 2008

Photojournalism can be glamorous, but it can also be hard work! And where can it better be experienced than at the 59th Berlinale surrounded by stars like Clive Owen, Tilda Swinton, Keanu Reeves, Kate Winslet and amongst hundreds of photojournalists?

Capturing special moments, unusual events and major stars at the 59th Berlinale - this was the task given to the 18 young photographers of “Close Up!”. With a special accreditation, the participants, which were selected by C/O Berlin from more than 100 applicants, had the opportunity to try out their skills as professional photojournalists every day from 5th to 15th February 2009 at the 4pm Red Carpet and at a variety of special events.

It was worthwile! The works submitted by the participants were judged by a specialist jury, which was made up of Felix Hoffmann, Curator C/O Berlin, Erika Rabau, Berlinale-Photographer, Michael Biedowicz, Die Zeit, and Martina Eichmann, Canon Deutschland. The first prize was a Canon EOS 450D plus Double Zoom, the second and third price a Canon Digital Ixus 85IS. Dieter Kosslick, festival director and patron of 'Close Up!', presented the prize on February 15th, 2009 and opened the exhibition.
